Toshiba 23HLV87 23-Inch LCD HDTV with DVD Player Review

After about four months of use, I like this TV/DVD player and it fits my needs well with the built-in functionality. This is a very flexible device and I use it in my home office (which is also a bedroom), which is my only work location. For a majority of a work day it is used as a 2nd computer monitor, which comes in very handy with the multiple windows I tend to need open. The size of the monitor at 23" eases the stain. After work I use it as a TV or DVD player and find viewing is good from approx. 10 feet or so. My daughter sometimes guests out on weekends and gets a lot of use out of it. I would give it five stars but the remote is sometimes recalcitrant in activating channels or volume changes, detracting from a seamless operation.

The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating.

The 23HLV87 includes an integrated DVD player compatible with several disc formats: DVD Video, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and DVD-R. This player is also DivX home theater certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4. Similarly, MP3 and WMA-encoded music files recorded to disc will play nicely.

An interesting feature of this player is Digital Picture Zoom, which allows you to select and magnify an area of either freeze-frame or motion video.

The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.
